Blair Chamberlain was born in 1978 in Christchurch, New Zealand. In 1999 he completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Otago University. Blair’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, both nationally and abroad over the past twenty years, with work represented in both private and public collections.
In the body of work presented here, sanding, spraying and stencilling processes meet finely applied gold foil and carefully considered compositions, creating unexpected balance. Wild, organic passages are held and contained by repeated geometric elements, or by the rectangular edge of the work itself.
The artist has said that the work explores a space where “comfort, control and a sense of order can act as a shield against the unpredictability and lurking chaos of the outside world”, suggesting that, alongside the formal, there is a psychological and human balance taking form inside the work as well.
Our central Christchurch studio doubles as a gallery and event space, with a light and modern open-plan design, and plenty of room for guests. We love welcoming people into our space, and we’ve hosted exhibitions, seminars, and business launches for some very talented Christchurch locals.
If you’re looking for a versatile urban space for your next event or exhibition, let’s talk about how we can showcase your project at Attraction Studio. Get in touch or come in for a visit - you’ll find us at 204 St Asaph Street.
We welcome you to visit the gallery by appointment to view the artworks. As this is a creative agency studio, the best times to view are midday or early evenings on workdays, or in the weekends. Please call Bianca on 027 524 2622 or email bianca@attractionstudio.co.nz to arrange.
